The Elizabeth Cooper (Pruyn) Harrison Papers consist of letters, photographs, scrapbooks, and other mementos related to her life as socialite, world traveler, and patron of the arts and literature. In addition, there is considerable documentation relative to her family history and genealogy, particularly Pruyn, Cooper, and Nott ancestry. Her travels throughout Europe and Asia are well documented in letters, photographs, and picture postcards. During her travels, she often met socially prominent persons whom would later correspond with her. The most notable of these correspondents was the spiritual leader of Indian independence, Mahatma Gandhi. Her interest in the arts and literature are most vividly captured in her correspondence with renowned Shakespearian scholar, Horace Howard Furness. Of related interest, the papers includes a letter of December 30, 1910 to Furness from noted Shakespearean actress, Ellen Terry. Other papers Include letters and copies of sketches of Charles Dana Gibson, photographs and ephemera from sojourns at Cornish and Onteora art colonies, and pictures and letters related to civilian relief work in Europe during the First World War.
